New Freightliner Cascadia with LED headlight, how to disable the Accent / Park function

Posted by: on

Applicable Vehicles:

This solution applies to all New Cascadia Vehicles with LED headlights.

Issue:

Several requests have been submitted to the Customer Assistance Center (CAC) pertaining to Accent / Park light function change. The white colored Accent / Park light, located just above the headlights is illuminated any time the ignition switch is on. Currently (4/11/2019) there is no programming available to change the operation of the light. There are plans to make programming available for function changes in the future, but no time line has yet been established.

Solution:

Accent / Park light function cannot be altered to function differently. In several cases the request has been made to eliminate the light's function. Since the Accent/ Park light function was never required (optional light), eliminating the light is acceptable. Since there is no programming available to eliminate the Accent / Park light, the only way to eliminate the light is to cut 379W left side and 379X right side wires about 3” from the headlights, fold all sides of the cut wires back and tape the wire ends to the harness. Images have been added below, documenting the wires that can be cut, along with the location of the Accent / Park light.

Additional Information:

This Accent / Park lamp location can have three different functions. When the lamp is operating, without any modifications and if the vehicle is ordered with Daytime Running Lights (DRL), then the location will operate as follows.

  1. When ignition is on the Accent / Park lamp will be on (white in color).
  2. With turn signal, or 4-way activation the Accent / Park location will flash (amber in color).
  3. DRL will be on (brighter than Accent /Park white in color) if engine is running (engine speed greater than 300 RPM), park brake released and headlight switch in the off position. For information related to DRL interrupt at low speeds below 10 MPH reference

Applying this solution would only eliminate item one above and item 2 and 3 would continue to function normally.
