Posted by: Duaparts on
Applicable Vehicles
P4 New Cascadia vehicles specified with Detroit-Racor Fuel Water Separator and Adaptive Power Steering built since 10/8/2021.
Symptoms
Access to FWS Bowl to replace Filter is reduced due to location of a APS Wiring Bracket.
Issue
New Cascadia vehicles specified with Detroit – Racor Fuel Water Separators and Adaptive Power Steering (APS) may have reduced access to service the Fuel Water Separator due to the location of the APS Wiring bracket. Figure 1 shows the current installation of the FWS – APS Wiring and the limited space available for servicing the FWS Assembly-bowl.
Solution
In order to improve the serviceability of the Detroit FWS, the mounting-location of the APS Wiring mounting bracket needs to be relocated to provide better access to the FWS bowl.
- Disconnect the APS Wiring connectors
- Remove the APS Wiring mounting Bracket Bolt/Nut, Items 9 and 10 in Figure 2.
- Drop down the APS Wiring – Bracket to open space to access the FWS mounting bracket.
- Mark and drill an additional hole position as shown in Figure 3.
- Using the new hole drilled on the FWS Bracket, reinstall the APS Wiring Bracket using the same specified bolt/nut and tightening to 132 Lbf-Inch (11 Lbf-ft). New installation is shown in Figure 4.
- Plug in APS wiring connectors and clip Harnesses as needed.
