Issue

New Cascadia vehicles specified with Detroit – Racor Fuel Water Separators and Adaptive Power Steering (APS) may have reduced access to service the Fuel Water Separator due to the location of the APS Wiring bracket.  Figure 1 shows the current installation of the FWS – APS Wiring and the limited space available for servicing the FWS Assembly-bowl.

Solution

In order to improve the serviceability of the Detroit FWS, the mounting-location of the APS Wiring mounting bracket needs to be relocated to provide better access to the FWS bowl.

  • Disconnect the APS Wiring connectors
  • Remove the APS Wiring mounting Bracket Bolt/Nut, Items 9 and 10 in Figure 2.
  • Drop down the APS Wiring – Bracket to open space to access the FWS mounting bracket.
