How Cascadia Dome Lamps function

Posted by: on

DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DOOR SWITCHES

The dome lamps are activated by opening the driver or passenger side door. Opening and closing the door actuates a door switch which is part of the door latch assembly in each door.

Continuity across door switch (switch closed) = door open

No continuity across door switch (switch open) = door closed

There is continuity across the switch when the door latch is in the open or primary latch position. There is no continuity across the switch when the latch is fully closed on the secondary latch position. To open the switch (interrupt the current path) the latch must be in the secondary latched position.

NOTE: Constant battery power is supplied to each door switch from SAM Cab fuse F13 pin X8/6. When the door switch is closed, a 12V signal is returned to the SAM Cab (pin X8/1 for the drivers side, and pin X17/5 for passenger side).

NOTE: See diagram G06-54501-000 in module 787 for door switch wiring. See diagram G06-53148-XXX (multiple dash numbers) in module 32B for dome light wiring.

NOTE: Use the Datalink Monitor template "Cascadia Dome Lamps" to monitor the status of the door latches. The door latches may need adjustment if they cannot be put in the secondary latch position.

DOME LIGHT TIMER LOGIC

Timer logic varies as described below. Ignition on/engine running prevents any timer circuit logic from functioning.

Instantly Off (Driver & Passenger Dome Light)
If the ignition is on and the doors are closed (door switches open) the dome lights over driver and passenger instantly begin dimming to fully off (theater lighting timer shut down) - approximately 5 seconds. Door must be on secondary latch (fully shut).

Off After 15 Seconds (Driver & Passenger Dome Light)
If the ignition is off and the doors are closed (door switches open) the dome lights above driver and passenger will turn off after approximately 15 seconds. Door must be on secondary catch (fully shut).

Off After Approximately 15 Minutes (Driver & Passenger Dome Light)
If the truck is parked with the ignition is off, and the doors are left open (one or both door switches closed), the dome lights above driver and passenger will turn off after approximately 15 minutes. Door must be open or not latched in the secondary latch.

Remain On Indefinitely Case #1 (Driver & Passenger Dome Light)
If the ignition is on and the drivers side door is open (door switch closed) the dome lights will remain on indefinitely. If the park brake is released, a chime sounds continually and vehicles with an ICU4M will indicate in the display that the park brake is released. Door must be open or not latched in the secondary latch.

Remain On Indefinitely Case #2 (Driver & Passenger Dome Light)
If the ignition is on and the passenger side door is open (door switch closed) the dome lights will remain on indefinitely. There is no indication (chime or message) if park brake is released as there is with Case #1).

SLEEPER LIGHTS TIMER LOGIC

No Timer (Sleeper Lights)
Sleeper lights turn off with LVD. Driver can override and turn on after 1st and 2nd LVD level is reached. LVD shuts the sleeper lights off when the next level is reached.

BAGGAGE COMPARTMENT LIGHTS TIMER LOGIC

Remain on for 30 minutes (Baggage Compartment Lights)
Baggage compartment lights will remain on for 30 minutes if engine is off without one or more baggage doors unlatched.
